Goal Setting Helps Business Move Forward

January 3, 2018 By Tracee Loftus

Today is the PERFECT time for goal setting for the year if you didn’t at the end of 2017.

Business Goals - set them now image

Set some goals that will be meaningful to your business.  Here are some examples:

  1. Post on your social media platforms 2+ times each week (e.g. Facebook, Pinterest, post in a group on LinkedIn, etc.).  Some require more (Twitter), some will require less (YouTube), and most will benefit from at least two postings each week.
  2. Network!  Make 5 new contacts a month.
  3. Customer referrals – make contact with 5 “old” contacts a month – those you haven’t talked with in a long time.
  4. Take one hour each week to brainstorm new ideas for your business.  You don’t have to do anything about it right away.  Just let the idea of creativity be a part of your planned workday.  The important ideas will resurface and they will get done.
  5. One of my favorites:  Choose a priority list for the day.  Pick 3 to 5 items that MUST get done today!  Write them down and cross them off as you accomplish them.  Face it, many of us have very messy work days.  We do not get the luxury of methodically working on one project to completion and then start another.
  6. Choose one frog every day.  Do you remember the book: Eat That Frog!  This is a book by Bryan Tracy.  The idea in it is to do the least desirable activity that is also very important, first.  This way you can feel the success and momentum of getting that task out of the way.  After you have “eaten the frog”, you can do anything!
  7. Post one picture or comment each week highlighting your product on strategic places around the internet. This is great for the credibility of your business and website – answer questions on Q&A sites, directories, industry-specific sites, etc.
  8. Add new content to your website weekly – freshen up old blog posts, add to annual lists, etc.
  9. Search your company name on the internet to see what comes up.  Is there some damage control needed or great reviews to highlight on your own online assets? This is the best way to manage your online reputation.  Keep informed on where your name and company name are being used.

Oh, the list goes on and on.  Try not to over commit yourself.  It can be overwhelming if there are too many items on the list.  Goal setting shouldn’t be overwhelming. Focus on 3 to 5, set measurable goals and start with those!

Good Luck!

4 Favorite Tricks to be More Productive with Social Media

November 15, 2016 By Tracee Loftus

Do you ever look around your desk and see the mounds of work you “need” to do?  Do you ever find yourself wondering what happened to the last two hours?  Do you ever get lost on the internet down a rabbit hole to discover you just missed that conference call you were supposed to call into?  Do you wonder how in the world you can possibly make a difference on your social media platforms when you don’t have enough time to do your “regular” work now?  How am I every going to be productive with social media?

You are not alone.  With all the barrage of devices and delivery methods, it is a wonder that we can focus long enough to get anything done.  Add the difficult project you are not looking forward to working on and you could be lost on the internet for another two days trying to not do the one thing you need to get done!

Here are four of my favorite tricks to keep myself in the positive, productive mode:

1 – I use a timer – kitchen timer, free timer on my iPhone, meditation timer found on the internet – use anything that you can set for a specified amount of time and get to work on just one thing until it goes off.  My preference is to set the timer for 14 minute blocks.  Usually by the third or fourth time it goes off, I am ready for a 3-4 minute stretch.  I actually stand up and stretch at my work area to get the blood (and ideas) flowing again.

2 – Focus on one thing at a time.  Resist checking email, answering phone, responding to texts, etc.  Anything can wait for the 14 minute block of time while the timer is going.  Stay in one platform, like LinkedIn and find people you know, find groups that will help you with your business, etc.  Write that blog article and nothing else until that gets done.  Review and reset your Facebook ad settings and comment on business pages to help your network (hint: and then they will probably help you back).

3 – At the beginning of each work day, I organize my day by choosing 3 to 5 “priorities” to get done that day.  When I find myself pulled off into another direction, as soon as I realize it, I end that diversion and get right back to my big focus point.  I literally write them down on a 3 X 3 yellow (or pink) sticky note and cross them off as I accomplish them.  These priorities can vary in time commitments and/or importance.

4 – Stay in the moment.  Do not concern yourself with the weight of the world on your shoulders.  For the 14 minutes your timer is ticking, just work on the one thing.  Each day, one of those 14 minute blocks is spent in silent meditation.  I find this helps me keep clearer throughout the day.  I turn off sound notifications and simply close my eyes, breath quietly and try to think of nothing.

One aspect to success and being more productive with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, etc.) is consistency.  Be consistent in postings to keep communities interactive.  Posting in social media accounts is part of a basic internet presence plan and this need to be done on a regular basis.  Use these 4 tips to become more productive with your social media accounts.

Don’t pitch the program if you falter.  Just start over.  Set the timer, pick that one big focus, ignore the buzzes, rings and beeps and forge onward!

8 Digital Marketers share tips for 2014

January 21, 2014 By Tracee Loftus

Video interview from ClickZ (by Melanie White).  Nothing seems new here (this year) – all about social, data and telling a brand story.  See the full video here.

Where to start with website services images

1)     John Costello, Dunkin Donuts, “I think this year marketers should really focus on differentiation – why should our customers choose us over everyone else?  And, understanding digital, social and your Return on Investment (ROI).

2)     Michael Goodman, Campell Soup, “You have to put the consumer first (not just doing social, digital) but being aware what the consumer is interested in, being relevant and having the conversation consumer wants to have not wanted the business owner wants them to have

3)     Nancy Newman, Buzzfeed, “Have to go social and mobile has to be a big part of it.”

4)      Mari Kim Novak, Ad Club of New York, “I think data is big – understanding the data you have. Understand consumers in a more focused way to give consumers what they want.  Data allows us to be better marketers, better storytellers and really bring the brand story to life.”

5)      Camille Hackney, Atlantic Records, “Understand how to best use entertainment and celebrity to connect their brand with the consumer.”

6)      Matt Weiss, Havas Worldwide. “Same thing people should be thinking about since the beginning of time when it comes to communications; great storytelling, great content that engages your consumers and then translating it so it is meaningful to them in places where they interact and hopefully share.

7)      Alvin Bowles, Grab Media, “Most brands should be focused on their connection to their consumers from a really engaging perspective using video, mobile and in contextual relevance – it is really about having a personal conversation with consumers directly to be able to engage individuals in order to attract purchase intent.”

8)      Barry Frey, Digital Place-Based Advertising Association, “Marketers should be focused on analytics – in addition to keeping the unity component.  We need to keep the ability to craft and tell a story.  The story is what connects people  – and the data and automation can measure that – a great mix of humanity and automation.”

5 Tips to a Great LinkedIn Experience

January 17, 2014 By Tracee Loftus

LinkedIn is considered the social networking website for professional people in all occupations and industries.  And there is a difference in personal and professional networking!  LinkedIn helps move your networking efforts into a strong community of professional contacts.  Putting LinkedIn to use extends your current network into that of trusted contacts.  Try out some of these tips and see how your professional connections grow!

Tip #1  – Use a picture.  People will remember you much more if they can see what you look like on your LinkedIn profile.  The picture will be used on your posts.  We are a society that gets 93% of its verbal cues from body language.  I realize a picture doesn’t move, but it helps your contact or future LinkedIn connection to recognize you.  Use a current, professional picture.

Tip #2 – Use the status – This is the place to add links that could inform your network of important industry trends or notify your connections about an award your department received.  This is a great place to indicate to those around you that you are engaged and active.  You connections do want to be informed of your progress and accomplishments.

Tip #3 –  When making a connection, make it personal.  Don’t just hit “connect”.  Take the time to put a thoughtful sentence or two directed specifically at the person to whom you are requesting a connection.  Then, when you get the connection, thank that person for the connection.  Then you are off to a good start in actually professionally networking with your new contact.

Tip #4 – Compete the Summary – this is where you can add anything you want to tell a compelling and interest story of yourself and you career.  Use the keywords that are hot buttons for you and talk about your accomplishments and how you deliver value to your clients and/or colleagues.

Tip #5 – Security/Privacy Settings – Click on “Privacy & Settings” and browse around in this area.   Find this by hovering over you photo at the top right and a drop down menu will show you options.  Take about 10 or 15 minutes to browse this area to see what others can see and what they cannot.  Make your choices about what you want your public profile to look like and what others searching your profile and network to see.

Bonus LinkedIn experience tips:  LinkedIn has a ton of information being passed around just like the rest of the social media platforms.  Much of it is valuable, helpful information.  Once you get your profile set up, you can join groups which are specific to your industry or interest.  Don’t be shy, make a comment on one of the groups.  You can also “follow” companies to keep current with a client, competitor or future employer.

Content Is King….still

December 20, 2013 By Tracee Loftus

Content is King, as evidenced by this article on SocialMediaToday.com.  The article and the infographic show trends about marketing in 2014 as researched using sources such as Forbes and other reports.  The sources are found at the bottom of the infographic.  Marketers are using content marketing more and more as shown on the infographic.  Actually, this infographic is a great example of what one can do by researching some good information about a topic, putting it into a chart and write an article about – all content creation that is darn useful!

In my humble opinion, content is the cornerstone for marketing nowadays.  You have to give your readers and users looking for your product reason to understand that you know something about their target product.   Marketing and advertising used to be about getting your product in front of the potential client any time and hope they remember it when they are ready to buy.  Content marketing is about getting your client to find your product and know that you are a great source of information about it and probably a good place to start is making a purchasing decision.

Write something of value to your audience and they will probably remember you and ask for more information.  Give the user something of value.  And remember, Content is King!
